4 Things to Do Before Giving CBD to Your Dog
Just like humans, dogs also have an endocannabinoid system which is composed of cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors. When CBD binds with cannabinoid receptors, homeostasis is achieved. CBD has been found to be effective in treating many medical conditions such as stress, depression, anxiety, and pain, among others. Just as dogs have an endocannabinoid system, CBD may work in the same way as it works with humans. But even then, don’t give the CBD that you are taking to your dog.
Many CBD products are now in the market that cater to dogs. You can see some of the best brands online. But before deciding on one to buy for your dog, you should take precautionary measures or else things may go bad instead. Here’s what to do before buying CBD for your dog.
Inspect if the Product Has Certificate of Analysis
Ideally, a CBD product for dogs should not have any trace of THC. You can only do this if there is a certificate of analysis on a products label.
The certificate of analysis or COA may also suggest that the CBD product has undergone microbial test, heavy metal test, and pesticides test. Not finding a COA on a product label is proof that the product is not reputable. You should always buy a CBD product with a COA for safety.
Go For Zero-THC CBD for Dogs
THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis that can give the ‘high’ to users. This may not be the case with dogs. The smallest amount of THC can be toxic to your pet. It can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and other negative reactions. This is why you have to check the certificate of analysis when buying CBD for dogs.
Skip Hemp Oils
When a product is labeled as hemp oil, it may be a way of the manufacturer to do away with restrictions imposed on CBD products. If you cannot determine the exact amount of CBD, then don’t buy the product. It may not have CBD at all.
Select Broad Spectrum CBDs
CBD isolates are excellent choices as you are assured that there is no THC in it. It has only pure CBD. But with a broad spectrum CBD, other healthy components of the cannabis like terpenes are also present. Your dog will be able to benefit from other useful cannabinoids and terpenes.
You should always check if a CBD brand has dosages on it label. Otherwise, you have to go to your veterinarian before giving to your dog. While you can save on cheap CBDs, it may not be right to compromise quality.…
